Frequently Asked Questions

A dietitian is trained in dietetics and medical nutritional therapy to treat acute and chronic conditions by developing food plans that adhere to USDA dietary guidelines. Most dietitians dwell on calories and dietary restrictions considered good and bad foods by government standards. A holistic nutritionist works in the advanced practice of personalized nutrition applying the concept of bio-individuality to create nutritional, lifestyle and supplement solutions to address the underlying causes of chronic disease
Functional lab work is at the heart of any functional and holistic approach to health. By utilizing non-invasive laboratory tests, we can obtain accurate, black-and-white data which allows us to identify the specific areas in your body that need to be addressed. Many times these imbalances are hidden and can only be discovered through lab testing.
Labs focus on the areas of the hormones, immune system, digestion, detoxification, food sensitivities and nutrients, making the program comprehensive. Subsequent retesting and symptom surveys allow us to chart improvement as our clients progress through our program.
While midlife women are our primary focus, we are frequently asked to work with the husbands of our private clients and happily do so. With respect to children, we may consider working with the daughters of our clients, depending on the circumstances. In either event, we will always ensure that if we cannot apply our services, we will provide you with a professional referral.
Yes, we sure can. We work with people all over the world, actually. We can work via phone or Zoom.
Prior to your first meeting with us, we will send you intake forms to complete. These need to be returned at least 48 hours prior to our first meeting.
During our initial meeting, we will discuss your forms, along with your current health complaints, wellness goals, nutrition, and any current medications and supplements you are taking. These are in-depth discussions, so you are urged to spend some time prior to our meetings making a list of questions, concerns, and observations concerning your health. We consider all information pertinent to your health, so the more detailed you can be the better.
Based on our discussions, we will provide you with an initial protocol to follow covering diet, lifestyle and supplement recommendations, and we may recommend certain functional lab testing, which may include saliva, urine, blood, or stool samples. Most lab samples are very easy to obtain and are completed in the convenience of your own home. The lab results will provide us with a current and thorough assessment of how various systems in your body are functioning. After we get the results back, we go into action mode and start implementing changes based on those lab results.
In short, we work best with people who are motivated to learn about holistic health and want to be able to apply the principle of vitalism to their lives. They want to make changes but don’t know how and where to start. They are willing to invest in themselves, both financially and time-wise.
We like to talk to potential clients first because we want to make sure we are a good fit for each other. We also want to hear your story and listen to what symptoms you have been experiencing This way we can better assess what package and what tests might be best for you. The details of fees are discussed during your free discovery call because it is impossible to convey the value of what I do over the internet.
Unfortunately, we currently do not accept insurance. Lab tests may be covered but it depends on your insurance coverage. If your insurance pays for out of network labs then you may be able to get reimbursement for some of our services using a receipt which you can turn into your insurance to see if they will cover the cost. Under many circumstances you can use HSA (health savings accounts) to cover our costs but we recommend checking first to make sure.
Sadly, you can’t rely on your health insurance for your health. Functional nutritional therapy and health coaching help you take control of your health, and be responsible for the type of care and testing that you want. Relying on an industry that is not designed to heal is setting yourself up to stay sick and stay stuck. If you do, you will be limited to what type of care you will receive, i.e. medications and surgery. Insurance is important for emergency crisis care. Although it is a necessary part of most people’s lives, insurance is not going to pay for true wellness care. For health optimization, insurance is pointless.
